Monza will participate in the Rossini commemorative year with an extensive programme of events including theatrical performances, recitals, musical walks, guided tours and concerts, plus, entertainment for children. A cultural calendar, from September to December, to narrate the great Italian composer and to highlight his multifaceted genius.
The first unmissable date on the schedule is for Sunday, September 9th at 17:00, in the Sala Maddalena (Via Santa Maddalena, 7), with ‘Monza Rossiniana - Gioachino Rossini legato a Monza da musica e amicizia’ (Monza Rossiniana - Gioachino Rossini linked to Monza by music and friendship), a recital with musical arias selected from the composer’s works represented at the Teatro Sociale di Monza. Sala Maddalena will also host two other events: a conference with music entitled ‘Rossini e il Risorgimento’ on October 12th and, on November 24th, a performance entitled ‘Gioachino Rossini e la cultura artistica del XIX secolo’ (Gioachino Rossini and the artistic culture of the nineteenth century).
The Villa Reale gardens will form a perfect backdrop for the second date on the calendar: on Saturday 15th September at 16:30 a ‘Rossini Walk’ will be held, a musical-poetic stroll in a beautiful setting to discover and appreciate the works of Rossini and the poems of his European contemporaries (Baudelaire, Byron, De Espronceda, Foscolo, Schiller and Pushkin).
Then a conference entitled ‘Le feste in Villa Reale ai tempi di Eugenio de Beauharnais con le musiche di Rossini’ (The parties in Villa Reale at the time of Eugenio de Beauharnais with Rossini’s music) will be held on September 29th on the main floor of the Villa Reale.
Music and entertainment also at the Teatro Binario 7 on October 25th. At 21:00 the curtain will rise for the theatrical and musical show ‘Tutto Rossini! In words and music’.
Two commemorative concerts will also be scheduled: the first, ‘Stabat Mater’, is a performance for soloists, chorus and orchestra and will be held at the Duomo on October 26th at 21:00. The second, ‘Rossini sacro’ (Sacred Rossini) a concert of arias taken from the ‘Petite Messe solennelle’, will be accompanied by a reading of the ‘Inni sacri’ (The Sacred Hymns) by Alessandro Manzoni, and is scheduled for December 2nd at 16.30 in the Cappella Reale (Royal Chapel) of the Monza palace.
The tribute to the composer will conclude on December 21st at 21:00, at the Teatro Binario 7 with ‘Crescendo rossiniano’, the theatrical and musical show celebrating the life of the great composer Gioachino Rossini.
