From 7th to 13th October, the Teatro Manzoni will host the XXV edition of the ‘Rina Sala Gallo’ International Piano Competition.

Founded in 1947 by Gallo, the Monza-born pianist, and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, it is one of the most important musical and cultural events in the city. As an international contest that attracts talent from all over Italy and abroad it adheres to the World Federation of International Music Competitions.

The main aim of the competition is to encourage and promote young talented musicians by supporting the winners financially and by giving them a head start in their professional careers.

For an entire week the Teatro opens its doors to an audience that is passionate about music and it becomes a great international stage upon which young talent from all over the world can perform.

For this year thirteen nationalities will compete comprising six competitors from South Korea and six from Japan, followed by Canada, China and Russia; the old continent will represented by Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Poland and the Czech Republic.

The competition attracts the highest level of competitors and prestigious juries that are renewed for each edition. The 2018 jury will be chaired by Vladimir Ashkenazy, one of the greatest living pianists, flanked by Akemi Alink, Fabio Bidini, Christopher Oakden, Roberto Prosseda, Bruno Rigutto, Marco Vincenzi and Vovka Ashkenazy, also in the role of artistic director.
