Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli

The church of St. Mary of the Angels was built in 1608 for want of Bartolomeo Zucchi, priest and man of letters died of plague in 1630. Heir to an ancient and noble family, Zucchi wanted to build in his father’s house a public church, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, exactly where on August 11th, 1578 St. Charles Borromeo healed a severely ill noblewoman of Monza. The church, officiated by the Jesuits, was enriched with valuable works of art; nonetheless the 17th century building was pulled down between the 19th and the 20th century to enlarge the street and, in its place, the actual Neo-gothic church was built by the architect Spirito Maria Chiappetta.
